A canteen with character

Adding a little warmth to the heart of the workplace with Stressless® tables and chairs.

In a joint venture with Kontorsystemer AS, Ekornes AS has transformed the canteen at CFLOW AS into a comfortable and stylish space where employees can relax and enjoy their meals. The environment feels far from a typical canteen – it has more of a lounge feel. CFLOW is a world leading supplier of systems for live-fish handling, located in Langevåg, not far from Sykkylven where the Ekornes factory is situated.

"We got this assignment just after the pandemic was over. CFLOW wanted to make sure that their employees felt exceptionally welcome when they returned to work," says Torbjørn Olsen, Sales Manager at Kontorsystemer AS. They are the leading local retailer of office furniture in Sunnmøre, where CFLOW is located.

"The brief was that they did not want a standard canteen; they wanted something extra."

To inspire the CFLOW team, Olsen took them to the Ekornes showroom in Ålesund. The visit was a success, with the CFLOW team falling for the furniture on display. "Together with Ekornes Contract, we delivered detailed drawings of what we believe to be an unusually cozy and functional lounge-canteen," says Olsen. "After receiving valuable input from the customer regarding color choices, it was just a matter of getting started."

The products delivered to CFLOW's canteen included the Ekornes® Ideal chair in small size with a high back, the Ekornes® Rondo pallet, and the Stressless® Laurel. In addition, the space was furnished with the Stressless® Bordeaux table and Stressless® Rome recliner.

When asked what is most important when decorating a canteen, Olsen replies, "There are many things to consider, but I would say that comfort and quality of the furniture rank highest. They are expected to last for many years, and must be able to withstand heavy use. Additionally, looks matter. If you want to give guests and employees that little extra, a refined canteen like this can significantly increase workplace satisfaction."

The new CFLOW canteen, with its thoughtfully selected furniture from Ekornes AS, now provides a unique dining experience that goes beyond pure functionality. It showcases how strategic collaborations, quality furniture, and a keen eye for design can create spaces that enhance the quality of life at work.
